Quick TakeFreshchat vs Alternatives
Freshchat has the most generous free tier in this group and mid-range paid pricing. Crisp undercuts it heavily at ten agents and above by charging per workspace instead of per agent. Intercom costs the most and bundles AI differently.

Quick Verdict

Freshchat vs alternatives at a glance (2026)
Freshchat
$23/agent/mo
Crisp
$95/mo flat
Intercom
$39/seat/mo
Cheapest free option
Freshchat Free, up to 10 agents.

Four live chat platforms, four different billing units. Freshchat and LiveChat charge per agent. Intercom charges per seat and then charges again per AI outcome. Crisp charges a flat fee per workspace with seats bundled in. Comparing headline prices across them is close to meaningless, so this guide prices a real team instead.

Disclosure: Stack99 earns a commission if you buy through links on this page. It costs you nothing extra and never changes our assessment.

Short version: Freshchat offers the only free plan here that covers a real support team, up to ten agents at no cost. Once you pay, it sits in the middle of the group. Crisp is dramatically cheaper for teams of ten or more because its price does not move with headcount. Intercom is the most expensive on seats and adds a separate charge for every AI resolution.

You can open Freshchat and check its plan page alongside this comparison. All figures were read from each vendor’s own pricing page on 10 October 2026, in US dollars, in both billing states.

How The Four Price

Every one of these four pages loads with annual billing already selected. Three of them advertise a saving percentage beside the toggle, and two of those three round it upward.

Freshchat pricing with monthly billing selected, showing 23, 59 and 95 per agent per month plus a free plan for up to 10 agents
Freshchat with the Monthly toggle on. The badge beside it still reads SAVE 20%.

Freshchat lists Growth at $19 per agent per month on annual billing and $23 on monthly. Pro runs $49 against $59, Enterprise $79 against $95. Work the percentages and the real savings are 17.4%, 16.9% and 16.8%. The badge says 20%.

Intercom is more interesting, because its discount collapses as you climb. Essential costs $29 per seat annually and $39 monthly, a saving of 25.6%. Advanced is $85 against $99, which is 14.1%. Expert is $132 against $139, a saving of 5.0%. Committing to a year on Intercom’s top plan buys you almost nothing.

LiveChat advertises “save up to 24%” and the phrasing holds. Essential costs $19 annually against $25 monthly, exactly 24%. Growth is $79 against $99, which is 20.2%. Crisp shows one set of monthly figures per workspace and says yearly billing can be switched on inside the app after you subscribe, without publishing a discount rate.

  • Freshchat: Free for up to 10 agents, then $23, $59 or $95 per agent per month
  • Intercom: $39, $99 or $139 per seat per month, plus $0.99 per Fin AI outcome
  • LiveChat: $25 or $99 per user per month, Enterprise by quote
  • Crisp: Free for 2 seats, then $45, $95 or $295 per month for the whole workspace

Freshchat Against Crisp

Crisp pricing page showing flat per workspace plans at 45, 95 and 295 dollars a month with seats included
Crisp prices the workspace, not the person. Seats are bundled: 4 on Mini, 10 on Essentials, 20 or more on Plus.

This is the comparison that decides most shortlists. A Crisp Essentials workspace costs $95 a month and includes ten seats. Ten agents on Freshchat Pro cost $590 a month at monthly rates. Same headcount, six times the bill.

Jump to twenty agents and Crisp Plus costs $295 flat while Freshchat Pro costs $1,180. The gap widens with every hire, because only one of the two numbers moves.

Freshchat answers back in two places. Its free plan covers up to ten agents, where Crisp’s free plan stops at two, so a small team pays nothing on Freshchat and $95 on Crisp for the same headcount. Freshchat also sells day passes at $2, $7 or $12 depending on plan, which lets occasional helpers join without a permanent seat. Crisp has no equivalent because it does not count people that way.

Feature sets differ in ways the price gap does not explain. Crisp bundles AI credits into every paid plan and puts a ticketing system and white labelling on Plus. Freshchat puts multiple SLA policies, intelligent routing and custom dashboards on Pro, and skill-based routing, audit logs and IP whitelisting on Enterprise. Teams that need SLA enforcement and audit trails are being pushed toward Freshchat Enterprise at $95 per agent regardless of what Crisp charges.

Freshchat Against Intercom

Intercom is the most expensive option here on seats alone. Essential at $39 per seat per month beats Freshchat Pro at $59, but Advanced at $99 is the fair comparison for routing and automation, and that sits well above Freshchat Pro.

Seat price is only half of it. Intercom charges $0.99 per Fin AI outcome on top, with outcomes billed when the AI actually resolves something. A team handling 500 AI resolutions a month adds $495 to the bill, which on a ten-seat Advanced plan nearly doubles the $990 seat cost.

Intercom gives something back in free Lite seats: 20 on Advanced and 50 on Expert. Lite seats suit people who need to read and comment rather than own conversations, and Freshchat has no direct equivalent beyond its day passes. There is also an unbundled option where Fin runs on your existing helpdesk at $0.99 per outcome with no seats at all, which matters if you are keeping another ticketing system.

Freshchat’s pitch against Intercom is predictability. Growth at $23 per agent with Freddy AI Agent priced at $49 per 100 sessions gives you a bill you can forecast from headcount. Intercom’s bill moves with how well its AI performs, which is defensible pricing and harder to budget.

Freshchat Against LiveChat

LiveChat is the closest match to Freshchat in shape. Both charge per person, both default to annual, both put routing and reporting behind the second tier.

Entry pricing favours LiveChat slightly on annual terms at $19 per user against Freshchat Growth at $19, a dead heat, though LiveChat’s monthly rate of $25 is higher than Freshchat’s $23. The middle tier is where they separate. LiveChat Growth costs $79 per user annually; Freshchat Pro costs $49. Ten people therefore cost $790 against $490 a month.

AI allowances run the other way. LiveChat Essential includes 10 AI resolutions a month and Growth includes 200, bundled into the seat price. Freshchat includes none: Freddy AI Agent is an add-on from Growth upward. A team doing modest AI deflection gets it free on LiveChat Growth and pays separately on Freshchat.

One structural difference matters for small teams. LiveChat has no free plan at all, so the floor is $19 per user. Freshchat’s floor is zero up to ten agents. A five-person team running basic web chat pays $95 a month on LiveChat annual and nothing on Freshchat Free.

The AI Line Item

All four sell AI, and all four count it differently. Comparing the rates directly would be wrong, so here is what each one actually charges for.

PlanPriceWhat you get
Freshchat Freddy AI Agent$49/100 sessions$0.49 a session, add-on from Growth upward. A session is not the same unit as a resolution.
Freshchat Freddy AI Copilot$35/agent/moMonthly billing. $29 per agent on annual terms. Available on Pro and Enterprise.
Intercom Fin$0.99/outcomeCharged per resolution. Also sold without seats to run on another helpdesk.
LiveChat AI resolutionsIncluded10 a month on Essential, 200 on Growth. Extra packs of 50 cost $49.50, which is $0.99 each.
Crisp AI creditsIncluded$5 of credits on Mini, $25 on Essentials, $75 on Plus. The free plan includes none.
Freshchat connector tasks$80/5000 tasks$0.016 a task, same rate on every paid plan.

Note the units before drawing conclusions. Freshchat bills a session, meaning a conversation the AI handles whether or not it ends well. Intercom and LiveChat bill a resolution, which only counts when the problem is solved. Freshchat’s $0.49 looks like half of $0.99, and it is not, because a session that fails still costs you.

Crisp is the only one of the four that puts a dollar value of AI credits in the plan price rather than selling consumption separately.

Cost At 5, 10 And 20 Agents

Monthly billing, no AI consumption, comparable tiers. These are the figures a finance team would actually see.

PlanPriceWhat you get
5 agents, cheapest viable$0/moFreshchat Free. Crisp Essentials $95, LiveChat Essential $125, Intercom Essential $195.
10 agents, entry tier$0/moFreshchat Free again. Crisp Essentials $95, Freshchat Growth $230, LiveChat Essential $250, Intercom Essential $390.
10 agents, routing and SLA$95/moCrisp Essentials. Freshchat Pro $590, LiveChat Growth $990, Intercom Advanced $990.
20 agents, routing and SLA$295/moCrisp Plus. Freshchat Pro $1,180, Intercom Advanced $1,980, LiveChat Growth $1,980.
20 agents, security tier$1,900/moFreshchat Enterprise at $95 an agent. Intercom Expert $2,780. Crisp and LiveChat quote their top tiers.

Read down that table and one pattern repeats. Freshchat wins outright below the ten-agent line because of its free plan, and loses to Crisp above it on price alone. Whether Crisp’s saving is real depends on whether its feature set covers what you need, which is a question about SLA policies and audit logs rather than about money.

Where Freshchat Wins

  • A free plan that covers up to ten agents, where Crisp stops at two and LiveChat offers none.
  • Day passes at $2, $7 or $12, which price occasional contributors without a monthly seat.
  • Mid-tier pricing below LiveChat and Intercom at the same feature level: $59 against $99 and $99 on monthly terms.
  • Published, self-serve pricing on all four tiers, with no quote required until Enterprise security features.
  • A 14-day trial that opens the Enterprise plan rather than the entry one.
  • AI priced per session rather than per agent, so light users are not charged for a seat licence they barely touch.

Where It Loses

  • Per-agent billing loses badly to Crisp once you pass ten people, by a factor of roughly four to six at comparable tiers.
  • No AI allowance is bundled at any tier, while LiveChat includes 200 resolutions a month on Growth and Crisp includes credits on every paid plan.
  • The annual discount is advertised at 20% and delivers 16.8% to 17.4%.
  • SLA policies and intelligent routing sit on Pro, which is a $36 per agent jump from Growth on monthly billing.
  • Audit logs and IP whitelisting require Enterprise at $95 per agent, the highest per-person figure in this comparison apart from Intercom Expert.

Buying Rule

Under ten agents, take Freshchat Free and spend nothing. Nothing else here comes close, and you can move later.

Over ten agents without hard SLA or audit requirements, price Crisp first. A flat $95 or $295 a month is difficult to argue with, and the saving against Freshchat Pro at twenty agents is roughly $885 every month.

Over ten agents with SLA policies, skill-based routing or audit logs on the requirement list, Freshchat Pro or Enterprise is the better fit and the per-agent cost is the price of those controls. Choose Intercom when AI deflection is the main point and you would rather pay per resolution than per seat, and LiveChat when a bundled AI allowance matters more than the seat rate.

Whichever way you lean, run the trial before committing to a year. Freshchat opens its Enterprise tier for 14 days, which is the cheapest way to find out whether you need it. Start a Freshchat trial here.

One limitation on this comparison. Intercom’s seat prices are rendered in an animated widget, and the figures above were read from the accessibility labels the widget publishes; they matched across both billing states. Crisp’s yearly discount is not published on its pricing page, so no annual Crisp figure appears above. LiveChat Enterprise and Crisp’s top-end limits are quote-only, and no estimate has been substituted for them.
